    Phytosphingosine: Product Introduction

Phytosphingosine is a sphingolipid compound naturally found in the seeds of plants such as wheat. As a precursor to ceramides, phytosphingosine promotes skin barrier repair, enhances the stratum corneum's water-retention capacity, and also promotes collagen synthesis, exerting antioxidant and anti-aging effects. Based on these functions, phytosphingosine is widely used in the cosmetics industry, commonly found in skincare products for repairing sensitive skin, controlling oil and treating acne, and moisturizing and anti-wrinkle. In addition, it has limited applications in food and health supplements, mainly as a nutritional supplement for regulating lipid metabolism. Currently, phytosphingosine is primarily produced industrially through microbial fermentation or chemical synthesis.

    Why Choose YTBIO Phytosphingosine?
We own our factory with over 12 years of experience supplying high‑purity sphingoid base raw materials for high‑end cosmetic formulations. Our full production line holds complete international certifications: cGMP, FSSC22000, BRC, HACCP, HALAL, KOSHER, ISO9001 & ISO22000, fully compliant with global personal‑care safety standards.

    Phytosphingosine: Main Efficacy

    High-Efficiency Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory Properties

Phytosphingosine exhibits significant inhibitory effects against various harmful microorganisms, such as *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Malassezia* (e.g., a concentration of just 0.04% can completely inhibit *Cutibacterium acnes*).

By inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, phytosphingosine alleviates symptoms such as skin redness, swelling, and itching.

Clinical studies indicate that combining phytosphingosine with benzoyl peroxide improves acne treatment outcomes by 50%, making it suitable for managing conditions like acne and seborrheic dermatitis.

    Moisturizing and Moisture Retention

As a precursor to ceramides, phytosphingosine directly replenishes intercellular lipids, strengthens the structure of the stratum corneum, and reduces transepidermal water loss.

Phytosphingosine activates Caspase-14 and BLMH enzymes, promoting the degradation of filaggrin into Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), thereby enhancing the skin's moisture-retention capacity.

When combined with ceramides, the skin barrier repair effect is significantly enhanced (experiments show a 77% increase in moisturization and a 230% improvement in erythema).

    Antioxidant and Anti-aging Effects

Promotes collagen synthesis, enhances skin elasticity, and reduces wrinkle formation.

Delays the processes of photoaging and natural aging by modulating cellular signaling pathways.

    Regulation of Sebum Secretion

Phytosphingosine and its derivatives (such as salicyloyl phytosphingosine) regulate sebaceous gland activity, helping to address excessive sebum secretion in oily skin.

    Phytosphingosine: Main Product Applications

    Skincare and Cosmetics Sector

As a precursor to ceramides, phytosphingosine is used in serums, creams, and toners to repair the damaged stratum corneum and alleviate redness and stinging associated with sensitive and dry, sensitive skin. By promoting collagen synthesis and providing antioxidant benefits, it is incorporated into anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, and firming products. Leveraging its broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties (inhibiting *Cutibacterium acnes* and *Staphylococcus aureus*) and anti-inflammatory effects, it is used in acne-clearing and oil-control products designed for oily, acne-prone skin and conditions like seborrheic dermatitis. It also enhances skin hydration, making it suitable for various moisturizing and reparative skincare products.

    FAQ

Q: Can Phytosphingosine be added directly into water phase?

    A: It is water‑insoluble.

Q: Does caking mean product deterioration?

A: No. This material is hygroscopic. Caking occurs under high temperature & humidity. Store sealed under cool condition. Caked material can be used normally after sieving.

Q: What are the advantages of fermented grade versus chemical‑synthetic grade?

A: Fermented grade has fewer impurities and lower irritation, better for sensitive‑skin formulas. Synthetic grade has lower cost with relatively more impurities. Compare impurity items on COA for reference.

Q: How to choose between phytosphingosine and ceramide?

A: Phytosphingosine is a precursor which converts into ceramide on skin. Ceramide is finished lipid for direct barrier supplementation. They can be used in combination.

Q: Is it suitable for leave‑on or rinse‑off products?

A: Works well for leave‑on serums, creams and also applicable in rinse‑off shampoo & scalp care products.

Q: What storage conditions should be followed for opened packages?

A: Seal tightly after opening, store in cool dark place, finish consumption as soon as possible to avoid moisture absorption.
